New Below Standard Experience

New Below Standard Experience

More insight, more guidance, and more time to get back on track

When you’re unable to meet eBay’s minimum performance standards, we’re making it easier to understand your status, how you got there, and what you need to do to fix it.

As you work to make these improvements, we’ll defer performance-related selling limits or restrictions on your accounts for at least 90 days*. So you have the time you need to focus on selling and get your account status back to Above standard.

Beginning October 20, 2016, if your status is below standard, you will receive:

Specific insight into the reason or reasons why your status is below standard
In addition to giving you a clear status alert, your seller dashboard will provide a detailed look into why you’re not meeting eBay’s minimum performance standards.

Clear and actionable guidance on what you can do to improve your performance

From your seller dashboard, you’ll also receive coaching and advice on how to help resolve the issues that may have caused your status to be below standard.

The time you need to improve, without performance-based selling limits or restrictions

To help you stay focused on improving your performance, eBay will defer performance-based selling limits or restrictions on your account for 90 days.

If, after those 90 days, your account status is still below standard but you’re showing improvement, that period will be extended another 30 days. And, as long you show improvement, it will continue to be extended every month.

You can check your seller dashboard anytime to monitor your progress and see how much time you still have to improve your performance.

*In addition, other eBay policy violations could result in selling limits or restrictions on your account.

HOW YOU BENEFIT

Giving you more control over your performance, with more help from us

Last year, we took an important step in giving you more control with our simpler, more objective seller standards.

Now, we’re taking another key step in that direction by providing better insight and clearer guidance for sellers who fall below eBay’s minimum performance standards.

In this new experience, you’ll receive the information you need to get back on track, and at least 90 days to make improvements before performance-related selling limits or restrictions on your account take effect.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

Visit your seller dashboard to see where you stand

Check your seller dashboard to review your status. For sellers whose status is above standard or Top Rated, no action is required as long as your status remains at least above standard.

Beginning October 20, 2016, if your status is below standard:

  1. Click “Find out more” in the top module of the dashboard to see what issues may be the cause.
  2. Make the recommended adjustments, following the guidance provided to help improve your performance.
  3. Use your 90-day period to improve your status to above standard, without performance-based selling limits or restrictions.

FAQS:

What are eBay’s seller standards?

You can read the details of eBay’s seller standards here.

Are eBay’s standards changing on October 20?

None of the standards which went into effect February 20, 2016 are changing on October 20, 2016.

What happens if I’m below standard on October 20?

Sellers whose status is below standard on or before October 20, 2016, will be given a minimum of 90 days to show improvement. During that time, performance-based selling limits and restrictions on your account will be deferred. Other performance-related consequences, such as lower search placement will continue to apply. In addition, other eBay policy violations could result in selling limits or restrictions on your account.

What happens after that 90-day period?

After those first 90 days, eBay will evaluate your performance to see if you’re improving. If you are showing improvement, those performance-based selling limits and restrictions will be deferred for an additional 30 days. And as long as you continue to show improvement, that period will be extended 30 days at a time until your performance meets our minimum standards. If you’re unable to show improvement after any 30-day evaluation period, you may then be subject to selling limits and restrictions on your account.

What does “showing improvement” mean?

Your status is considered below standard when your defect rate or rate of cases closed without seller resolution (or both) is higher than our minimum performance standards allow. Showing improvement means that you have raised either or both of these criteria in the current month compared to the previous month.

How do I know if I’m improving?

Your seller dashboard will be regularly updated to show which performance metric is causing your status to be below standard, and whether you are showing improvement.

What happens if I raise my performance above standard, then fall below again? Will I be given the chance to improve?

Anytime you fall below standard after being above standard or Top Rated, you will receive the same guidance and 90-day opportunity to improve your performance, without additional performance-based selling limits or restrictions on your account.

If my status is still below standard after the evaluation period, what happens next?

If you’re unable to show improvement after that 90-day period, you may be subject to performance-based selling limits or restrictions in addition to other consequences of being below standard, such as lower search placement.
